Welcome to the |
From the vicar, Roy Clements:
The Christ the King School of Faith is an attempt, through various means, to develop our understanding of our Christian faith and life together. Many people worship at church without having given Christian study a second thought for a long time. Others are new and are puzzled until things get explained.
We sometimes run courses on particular themes, and sometimes we do “lectures”, in what we hope is a style which helps anyone from the well educated to those who feel they are just beginners. In such ways we hope beginners in the Christian life may have a means of getting at what many others may wish to revisit, perhaps from their “Confirmation classes” years ago.
But courses and lectures don’t always suit everyone – and they can’t always be done at a time which people can manage. So some of the work is done through short articles published at our church’s services on Sundays and Wednesdays. We do series of articles, perhaps in something like six-week chunks, hoping to provide something which offers information and interest in a digestible form with only as many words as go on an A5 sheet of paper. So if you come to worship with us on most Sundays you may find an extra coloured A5 sheet with your hymn book and service sheet – it will be one of a series, and back numbers are always available at the church entrance.
As we produce more material, the series of articles will also be published here so that you can digest them at your leisure. If you would like to make enquiries about any matter of Christian faith in the hope that articles might appear on that theme, please contact me at roy@christ-the-king.co.uk.
Meanwhile, if you want to read some back numbers [though paper copies are available at church so you can put them in a colour-coded sequence in a binder], the following series are available by clicking here:
Sacraments What are they? What are they not? How should we understand them?
Ecumenism There are many different “denominations” of churches. What are they? Why are they there? Why don’t they get together again?
The Creeds The Church of England has three official statements of faith, called “creeds”. Why? What are they? What do they mean?
Churchmanship Are you “high church”, “low church” or what? What’s an evangelical? …and various related questions
Opinion pieces From time to time the School of Faith welcomes “opinion” pieces, though the editor [yes, the vicar!] retains the right to edit all contributions into a similar style and shape
Clothes and Ceremonies A look at the fancy dress and bobs and bows and genuflections.
Creation A look at the age old argument between science and the creation story.
The Lord's Prayer You can get so used to saying the “Lord’s Prayer” that you may not realise that what you say in church didn’t actually come from Jesus.
God “Well, I believe there is a God… but of the nature of that God I am less sure…..”.
Jesus Here is a chance to learn more about Jesus
How the Church of England works. Do you understand how it works? Here's a chance to find out.
The Christian Life Do you live a Christian Life. Here is some food for thought.
