Some passages from the Bible.
Food for thought

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd: therefore can I lack nothing.
He shall feed me in a green pasture: and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.
He shall convert my soul: and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.
Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me:
thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.
But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills -
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip –
he who watches over you will not slumber:
indeed he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you –
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm –
He will watch over your life;
The Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and for evermore.

Excerpts from Isaiah

I will not forget you. See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hand.

I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you: I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you: I have called you by your name and you are mine.... You are precious, honoured in my sight Do not be afraid. I am with you.

The Beatitudes

[From Matthew chapter 5]

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

John 14: 14

Jesus said: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.
I am going there to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
You know the way to the place where I am going.

Ephesians 3: 14-19

For this reason I fall on my knees before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives his true name.
I ask God from the wealth of his glory to give you power through his spirit to be strong in your inner selves,
and I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundations in love,
so that you, together with all God's people, may have the power to understand how broad and long, how high and deep, is Christ’s love.
Yes, may you come to know his love - although it can never be fully known - and so be completely filled with the very nature of God.
