The Squad

The Squad are a group of musicians who first came together in September 2007 when I was asked by Bill Jones to do something a bit different to end our open day celebration event.

At about the same time people were thinking about different forms of worship that might encourage families and young people, linked with Christ the King in some way, to come along on a Sunday.

The group were asked to play at an all age worship event on Advent Sunday. A said Eucharist and then bacon butties preceded this.

Since then we have played at York Minster for the Hope08 youth event at an audiovisual worship presentation at Christ The King on Shrove Tuesday and at our Mothering Sunday all age worship.

We are able to turn our collective musical talents to playing worship songs by the likes of Matt Redman or to play well loved hymns using a variety of acoustic or electronic instruments.

We are learning as we go along and appreciate that the music we play might not always be to everyone’s taste but so far the response to our musical contribution to the worshiping life at Christ The King has been very positive.

I would even dare to suggest that the musical talents that we can utilise, from a robed choir that musically lead our regular Eucharistic worship to The Squad, are second to none in the area.
